Parent/Athlete Resources for the 20-21 Season

West Mountain COVID Health and Safety Measures for 20-21
West Mountain’s COVID health and Safety policies are listed here. Please make sure to read this document over carefully with your athlete or athletes before they begin training at West. Coaches and staff this will be helpful information for you too. I will notify you all of any updates to policy.

Race Building and Lockers for 20-21
As it is mentioned in the document above, the lockers in the race building will not be available to athletes this season (or at least until further notice). All athletes will need to leave their equipment at home and ski bags can only be stored outdoors (there will be storage shelves located outdoors). The race building will be available mainly for coaches to store their things etc. Athletes will only be able to use the race building (with coach supervision) to warm up and by age group only.

Lunch breaks on weekends and holidays
All WMR lunch breaks on weekends and holiday break weeks will be staggered by age group this season. Coaches are not responsible for sitting with the kids at lunch time and given the mountain's safety policies U10s and younger will need a parent with them at the mountain during their lunch time (a lunch schedule will be available soon). Only those who are purchasing food will be able to sit indoors and under the heated tents. Athletes bringing their own food can sit at the outdoor picnic areas or inside their vehicle.

Lifts
WMR athletes and coaches will be able to ride the lifts together, they will just be spread out with seats open between them. They can always choose to ride alone too if they would like.

Daily health screening
WMR parents are personally responsible for performing a daily health screening at home ahead of practice. If your athlete is not feeling well, has been exposed to COVID, is running a fever, has traveled outside the state and has not completed the appropriate travel protocol, please do not send them to practice. The kids should be dressed warm and prepared to be outside as much as possible this season.

WMR Athlete Code of Conduct
The WMR Code of Conduct is part of the registration process, and it is attached below for you to read over with your athlete or athletes. As a representative of West Mountain Racing and West Mountain, we require all athletes follow the Athlete Code of Conduct.

USSS and NYSSRA Memberships
In order to compete in any/all USSS sanctioned races, your athlete will need a USSS (usskiandsnowboard.org) and NYSSRA (nyssra.org) alpine competitor membership. Athletes who turn 18 during the race season need to have their safesport in order to compete. Athletes will not show up as being current unless they have completed all the necessary steps.WMR coaches need to have their background checks, safesport and avalanche training in order to be current and coach.

WMR updated calendar
Please email sara@westmountain.com for the training/travel calendar

Pass PIck UP

Fall Conditioning
Fall conditioning has ended. We are now preparing for winter 20-21 training:) Training start date will be dependent on when we open, so please stay tuned.

Volunteer Service
All full program participants are required to volunteer for two race events during the season per family. You will receive a google sheet from event manager Sascha Mehalik that will allow you to sign up for your races. Hopefully, we will end up with a lot of them this season. See more below.

What do you and your athlete need before training and competition?

*******Volunteer Service -- All WMR full  program families are required to work two WMR full-day race events per family during the season. For the 2020/2021 season, We will require a payment of $200 at the beginning of the season if you do not want to volunteer. If families do not volunteer for two full-days of races during the season, we will issue you a bill for $200 at the end of the season. If a parent would like to serve on our race crew (10 or more races), you receive a full season pass. Please email sara@westmountain.com if you are interested in race crew. We also encourage all full program familiies to help with all the West Mountain School's fundraising events as WMS supports WMR with program scholarships, safety equipment and supplies that helps keep program fees more affordable for everyone.
